Jean Paints Big

Jean is a little boy. He has red hair and green eyes. Jean wants to be a great painter. He says, “I can paint!”
1

Jean gets his big paper. He puts on his paint smock. He picks up a fat brush. “Hello, brush,” he whispers.
2

Jean dips the brush in blue. He makes one long swoosh. Then he makes a tiny dot. “Swoosh and dot!” says Jean.
3

Jean tries red next. Red goes swish, swish. The red looks like a happy line. Jean giggles at his red paint.
4

Jean wants green paint. He mixes blue and yellow. He stirs slowly and watches. “Green! Green!” he cheers.
5

Oops! A drip goes plop. Jean looks at the drip spot. He takes a cloth and pats it. “It’s okay,” says Jean.
6

Jean paints a round sun. He paints a blue sky under it. He adds one fluffy cloud. “Sunny day,” says Jean.
7

Jean goes outside with his paper. He sees a tree and a little bird. He paints the tree trunk brown. “Tree!” he says.
8

Jean paints his family. He makes big heads and tiny feet. He adds smiles for everyone. “We are happy,” says Jean.
9

Jean shares his painting with a friend. His friend claps and smiles. Jean feels warm inside. “Thank you,” says Jean.
10

Jean hangs his art on the wall. He points and says, “I made it!” He looks at the colors again. “I can paint more,” says Jean.

At bedtime, Jean holds his brush like a teddy. He closes his eyes and smiles. He dreams of painting tomorrow. “Great painter,” whispers Jean.
